Following the successful launch of Bavaria’s largest battery storage system to date (with a storage capacity of 33 MWh) in Immenstadt, Allgäuer Überlandwerk (AÜW) and green flexibility are continuing their partnership. In Leupolz, a district of Kempten, the next – and even larger – battery project of the two partners is now taking shape. The corresponding cooperation agreements have already been signed, and the detailed project schedule will be finalized in the coming weeks.
“With the project in Immenstadt, we were able to demonstrate what’s possible when the right partners work together toward a common goal,” says Christoph Lienert, co-founder and managing director of green flexibility. “What’s even more remarkable: we not only stayed under budget but also connected to the grid faster than planned.”
At that site, AÜW and green flexibility set a benchmark for efficient implementation, technological excellence, and genuine partnership.
In Leupolz, this success is now to be built upon – with an even larger battery storage system that will play a central role in the regional energy transition in the future.
The cooperation between a regional energy supplier and a specialized developer and operator of battery storage systems is still considered exceptional in the industry – and a potential guidepost for the energy transition through collaboration among municipal utilities, grid operators, and innovative technology providers.
“To make the energy transition a reality, we need not only targets but also people and companies who make it happen. The expansion of renewable energy, which we have been successfully driving for many years, is one task. The storage of energy, so that electricity from wind and solar can be used as flexibly as possible when it is needed, is the next big challenge. We are tackling this challenge together with our partner green flexibility. I am convinced that with the battery storage project in Leupolz, we will once again achieve an important milestone for the energy transition,” confirms Michael Lucke, CEO of AÜW.
