green flexibility has officially opened its new large-scale battery storage system in Lauben, in the Unterallgäu district. With the opening, the company is making another important contribution to the energy transition in the region and demonstrating how modern battery storage technologies can support the integration of renewable energy and enhance power grid stability.
The Lauben battery storage system has a power output of 10 megawatts and a storage capacity of 25 megawatt-hours. The facility is another battery storage project by green flexibility within the grid area of LEW Verteilnetz GmbH, strengthening the regional energy infrastructure in the Allgäu region. green flexibility invested around €10 million in the development and construction of the project.
Experience Battery Storage – Open Day in Lauben
As part of the official opening of the large-scale battery storage system in Lauben, green flexibility opened the facility to the public for an open day.
Numerous local residents, project partners, and representatives from politics, business, and the energy sector accepted the invitation to the opening event and took the opportunity to experience the new battery storage system up close. In direct discussions with green flexibility’s experts, visitors gained insights into the technical infrastructure and the role of battery storage in ensuring a secure and sustainable energy supply.
The municipality and local associations played a key role in the success of the event. The TC Lauben tennis club provided catering, while the volunteer fire brigade supported traffic and parking management. This shared commitment highlights the importance of involving local stakeholders in the successful implementation and public acceptance of battery storage projects as part of a future-ready energy infrastructure.
Mayor Mr. Rößle expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout and the close cooperation among all parties involved:

Deputy District Administrator Christa Bail also emphasized the importance of the project for the region:

Grid-Neutral Integration for Greater Flexibility in the Regional Energy System
A particular focus of the project is its integration into the local grid. Through the REGIOlink concept developed by green flexibility, a Flexible Connection Agreement (FCA) was implemented in close cooperation with the grid operator. The agreement takes into account both the requirements of the regional grid and the conditions necessary for the economically sustainable operation of the battery storage system.
With its grid-neutral operating strategy, green flexibility takes an approach that goes beyond purely market-driven battery storage operation, specifically aligning the operation of large-scale battery storage with the requirements of the regional grid infrastructure.
